IRIS sibirica Maranatha
Royal purple flowers. June-July. Sheathes of grassy leaves. Ht. 90cm. Sp. 60cm. Bog, moist soil or dry soil once established. Lime tolerant. Full sun or part shade. Bred by Steve Varner in 1973.
The Siberian iris is native to Turkey where it grows in swampy ground. In cultivation it is an amenable plant. It is unfussy as to soil and will grow in anything from the heaviest clay to the lightest sandy soil (once established). Happy in full sun, they also thrive in part shade. Sometimes it is necessary to ‘cut back’ your plants for the good of the plants and to insure safe packing and arrival of your order. We only do this to herbaceous perennials that will rejuvenate stronger from the base.
